There's some great dives and great pricey places. But since you're kinda in the Richmond , you really need to discover the awesomeness quasar known as Melisa's Chinese Cuisine at 6th and Balboa. Best place ever – no msg, no greasy residue, reasonably priced and they deliver.

the monaco hotel's bar is one of the nicer ones in that area.

chinatown is cool. I used to live there for a short time in 2000 when I returned. I lived 1 block from the cable car barn, and walked to work every day via Powell. It was actually kinda fun for a while, and DVDs and food never cost much…
