This Thanksgiving Greg and I did the usual roadtrip down to LA to visit the fams and have 3 very large and delicious meals. I’m so thankful to have family who live in Southern California because while everyone else is bundling up this time of year, we get to enjoy tank tops and flip flops in the 70 degree weather. LA wins!!

Some photo’s of our Thankful filled Thanksgiving weekend:

I’m thankful for Pinterest (follow me!) who helped me discover this awesome nail painting tutorial, which means I had the best nails at the dinner table this year.
I’m thankful for my mom who always makes an epic breakfast of chorizo and eggs when I come home to visit.
I’m thankful for the Getty Museum in Los Angeles who allowed us to enjoy their beautiful fall trees for free
I’m thankful for this turkey who brought our family together for a delicious meal. Thanks Mr. Turkey!

I’m thankful for my grandma who makes so much delicious food every year that the rolls don’t fit on the table and have to sit on the couch during dinner.

I’m thankful to ZipCar who allowed us to drive down south to visit our family. I’m not so thankful to the 5 freeway who only has two lanes and makes us slowly pass Cowschwitz in the middle of nowhere as we frantically roll up the windows and plug our nose.

I’m thankful for San Francisco who always gives us the best welcoming whenever we come home.

And the one thing I’m most thankful for this year is my best friend and husband to be.

Oh….and THE wedding dress I found this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yep, that’s right, I SAID YES TO THE DRESS! Sorry, no pictures until after June 28th, 2012.

Greg and I had more friends in town this past weekend, and had the best time! My favorite part of the weekend was our visit to the CA Academy of Sciences , which we visited on Saturday. It opens at 9:30a.m. and we arrived a little after 10 without any lines. We went straight to the planetarium to get out passes for the 12p.m. show and began our journey. It’s important to get your passes ASAP because the shows fill up quick!

We started off in the aquarium and saw some of the prettiest, craziest, ugliest, biggest, smallest and coolest fish! There are a lot of under water tunnels so you can see the fish from every angle … which kind of freaked me out sometimes! From the aquarium we ran over to the cafe for a quick lunch before the planetarium show. There was all types of different foods, all of which was pretty good! Sandwiches, tacos, chicken, rice, salad, spring rolls, soup, and tons more I didn’t see.

The planetarium was definitely our favorite part! The show was called ‘Fragile Planet’ and was about our Earth and the universe we live in. It really showed us (in the coolest way possible) just how small we really are! It also made me feel very lucky to be apart of this crazy phenomenon we call life!

After the show we visited the Rooftop Garden or the “Living Roof.” It’s pretty fascinating to see how many different flowers, birds, and insects thrive off of this rooftop! We also saw solar panels along the roof which provides the building with 5-10% of its electricity. It was a beautiful day so we got great views of GG park, the Musical Concourse, and the de Young Museum.

Another great exhibit the museum houses is the four story life-like Rain Forest. Get ready to sweat when you get in here because not only does it look and smell like a rain forest, it’s hot and muggy like a rain forest too! Filled with plants, animals, and insects the rain forest was really fun to walk through. The prettiest part were the butterfly’s that flew freely throughout the entire exhibit.

Towards the end of our journey we went through the African Hall where we saw mostly replicas of animals that live in Africa. One of the few live animals in this exhibit were the African Penguins! Yes! Penguins live in Africa too! Crazy hu!

It was a long day of walking through the CA Academy of Sciences. We all had a great time and I can’t wait to go back!

Saturday was another cloudy day in the Outer Richmond District so we decided to venture off to the other side of town to get some sun! Greg and I set the alarm and made it out early in the day to check out SFMOMA (San Francisco Museum of Modern Art for all the noobs out there!) Greg and I LOVE going to the Getty down in Los Angeles, so we were very excited to check out some museums up here in SF. SFMOMA is in the SoMa area of San Francisco, which has so far been one of my favorite places to explore. It is right across from the Yerba Buena Gardens, which is where we planned to eat our packed lunch.

The museum was fun and packed with people. We saw a lot of kool art styles that we had never experienced before. Very Modern! One of our favorites was comprised of three separate pieces painted with thousands of dots. Unfortunately, we had a noob moment and forgot to take a pic of the artists information plaque! DUH! The Garden roof top was awesome too. There are a lot of big pieces up there along with a little cafe where they serve coffee (and I’m guessing tea).

I feel horrible saying this, but the truth is…either the pieces were amazing and beautiful in SFMOMA or they were something I feel I could totally do myself. Before all the art peeps start raging on us…Greg and I are not art experts and just enjoy walking through art museums quickly. We are not the kind to sit and ponder over a piece and wonder what was going through the artists mind…it is merely just an art fashion show for us. It’s nice and interesting until the next artist crosses our path (no attachments).

All in all, it was something fun and interesting to do on a Saturday afternoon away from home.
